  • Investigation of Dysregulated Signaling in MPD Via Multiparameter Phospho-specific Flow Cytometry

    The objective of this study is to better understand the underlying pathogenetic mechanisms of myeloproliferative disorders (MPDs). We will collect peripheral blood samples from MPD patients and utilize multiparameter phospho-specific flow cytometry to investigate dysregulated signaling in blood cells from these patients. This will provide deeper insights into the pathogenesis of MPDs and may lead to the identification of novel targets for therapeutic intervention.

  • Lenalidomide With or Without Epoetin Alfa in Treating Patients With Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Anemia

    This randomized phase III trial studies lenalidomide to see how well it works with or without epoetin alfa in treating patients with myelodysplastic syndrome and anemia. Lenalidomide may stop the growth of myelodysplastic syndrome by blocking blood flow to the cells. Colony stimulating factors, such as epoetin alfa, may increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood. It is not yet known whether lenalidomide is more effective with or without epoetin alfa in treating patients with myelodysplastic syndrome and anemia.

  • Neuroblastoma Biology Study

    Medical scientists want to find better ways to treat neuroblastoma and to find ways to prevent the tumor from growing back. To do this, they need more information about the characteristics of neuroblastoma cells. Therefore, they want to study samples of neuroblastoma tissues and neuroblastoma and normal cells in the blood and bone marrow that may be related to the growth of neuroblastoma cells.   • Prospective Validation of Cough, Dyspnea, and Quality of Life Questionnaires in Patients With IPF

    The purpose of this study is to test cough, dyspnea (shortness of breath), and quality of life (QOL) questionnaires for their accuracy, sensitivity, and ability to reliably measure the severity of cough, breathlessness, and changes in cough and disease-related quality of life over time in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) patients. These questionnaires have been used in other types of disease, but have not all been tested and validated in patients with cough due to IPF. Our hypothesis is that worsening of cough, dyspnea, and cough-related QOL questionnaire scores will correlate with physiologic markers of IPF severity and worsening of disease. Written, valid questionnaires measuring cough, dyspnea, and QOL are important to assess the benefit of investigational drugs under development to treat patients with IPF.

  • In Vitro Activation of Dormant Follicles for Patients With Primary Ovarian Insufficiency

    In this study, the investigators used the newly developed technique i.e. in vitro activation of dormant follicles (IVA) to promote ovarian follicle growth much more efficiently than natural, in vivo process for women with Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI).Firstly, the investigators remove one ovary under laparoscopic surgery. Then, we dissect ovarian cortex from the ovarian medulla. The ovarian cortex is cut into small cubes and cultured with medium containing drugs to activate dormant follicles. After 2 days of culture, the ovarian cubes are transplanted mainly beneath the membrane of Fallopian tubes under laparoscopic surgery. The ovarian cortex could be cryopreserve for future re-transplantation and in some cases, for convenience to arrange second surgery. Once frozen, the ovary can be preserved semipermanently. After transplantation, patients receive ultrasound monitoring together with measurement of serum hormone levels for 10-12 months. If growing follicles are detected, follicle growth is stimulated by injection of hormones (gonadotropins). Using the same "ovum pick up" approach used in IVF (in vitro fertilization), we pick up oocytes from the follicles and fertilize them. Fertilized eggs are cultured and then cryopreserved for future embryo transfer.

    Currently, we recurit patients diagnosed with POI, or Ovarian resistance syndrome (ORS). The procedure can also be: Only superficial cut of the ovarian cortex by laparoscopy or laparotomy, without taking ovary outside or cultured with medium.

  • Naloxone Hydrochloride Study for Relief of Pruritus in Patients With MF or SS Forms of CTCL

    This multi-center, double-blind, vehicle-controlled, randomized crossover design study will evaluate the safety and efficacy of topically applied naloxone lotion, 0.5%, for the treatment of pruritus in patients with the mycosis fungoides (MF) or Sézary syndrome (SS) Forms of Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma (CTCL). This study will also determine if there is systemic absorption of the drug in a subset of subjects and if so, describe the range and mean plasma levels reached after two weeks of three time daily (TID) dosing.

  • Phase 1b Multi-indication Study of Anetumab Ravtansine in Mesothelin Expressing Advanced Solid Tumors

    The key purpose of the main part of the study is to assess efficacy and safety of anetumab ravtansine as monotherapy or combination therapy for mesothelin expressing advanced solid tumors.

    The main purpose of the safety lead-in (dose-finding) part of the study is to determine the safety and tolerability of anetumab ravtansine in combination with cisplatin and in combination with gemcitabine, and to determine the MTD of anetumab ravtansine in combination with cisplatin for mesothelin expressing advanced cholangiocarcinoma and in combination with gemcitabine for mesothelin expressing advanced adenocarcinoma of the pancreas.

    Patients will receive anetumab ravtansine every three weeks in monotherapy for most indications. In cholangiocarinoma and adenocarinoma of the pancreas, 3-weekly anetumab ravtansine is administered in combination with cisplatin or gemcitabine respectively (both administered in a 2 week on / 1 week off schedule).

    Treatment will continue until disease progression or until another criterion for withdrawal is met. .Efficacy will be measured by evaluating the tumor's objective response rate. Radiological tumor assessments will be performed at defined time points until the patient's disease progresses.

    Blood samples will be collected for safety, pharmacokinetic and biomarker analysis. Archival or fresh biopsy tissue will also be collected for mesothelin expression testing and biomarker analyses.

  • Palifermin for the Reduction of Oral Mucositis in Patients With Locally Advanced Head and Neck Cancer

    The purpose of this research study is to test the safety and effectiveness of palifermin to determine if weekly doses can be safely administered to reduce the incidence (occurrence of), duration (length of time) and severity (amount of pain) of oral mucositis (painful sores in the mouth). Mucositis is a common side effect for patients receiving chemotherapy (cancer-killing drug) and radiotherapy (cancer-killing x-rays) for the treatment of head and neck cancer (HNC).

  • Interleukin-12 and Interleukin-2 in Treating Patients With Refractory or Recurrent Neuroblastoma

    Phase I trial to compare the effectiveness of interleukin-12 with or without interleukin-2 in treating young patients who have refractory or recurrent neuroblastoma. Biological therapies use different ways to stimulate the immune system and stop cancer cells from growing. Combining interleukin-2 with interleukin-12 may kill more tumor cells.

  • Long-term Lung Function and Disease Progression in Children With Early Onset Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Lung Disease

    Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), also known as Kartagener syndrome, is a genetic disorder of the cilia, which are microscopic hair-like cells. Cilia work to keep the respiratory system clean by moving mucus that contains debris to the large airways, where it can be coughed out. People with PCD have cilia that do not move properly and therefore are not effective in cleaning the respiratory system. This study will determine when PCD starts and how it changes over time, specifically in terms of how well the lungs work, what germs grow in lung secretions, and how the lungs look on computed tomography (CT) scans.

  • Management of Palmar Hyperhidrosis With Hydrogel-based Iontophoresis
