  • Lenalidomide in Treating Young Patients With Relapsed or Refractory Solid Tumors or Myelodysplastic Syndromes

    This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of lenalidomide in treating young patients with relapsed or refractory solid tumors or myelodysplastic syndromes. Lenalidomide may stop the growth of solid tumors or myelodysplastic syndromes by blocking blood flow to the cancer. It may also stimulate the immune system in different ways and stop cancer cells from growing.

  • In Utero Magnesium Sulfate Exposure: Effects on Extremely-Low-Birth-Weight Infants

    This study examined the effect of magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) exposure on adverse outcome in extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants. For infants included in the NICHD Neonatal Research Network Generic Database whose mothers were given prenatal MgSO4, data were prospectively collected on maternal/infant conditions and magnesium exposure (including indications, timing and duration of exposure).

  • Ostom-i Alert Sensor Quality of Life Validation

    The purpose of this study is to determine the usability and acceptance of the Ostom-i Alert Sensor. The investigators would like to see if is generally helpful to ostomy patients and whether it has a beneficial impact on living with an ostomy bag.   • N2007-03: Vorinostat and 131-I MIBG in Treating Patients With Resistant or Relapsed Neuroblastoma

    RATIONALE: Vorinostat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Radioactive drugs, such as iobenguane I 131, may carry radiation directly to tumor cells and not harm normal cells. Giving vorinostat together with iobenguane I 131 may kill more tumor cells.

    PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of giving vorinostat together with iobenguane I 131 in treating patients with resistant or relapsed neuroblastoma.

  • Neuroimaging Predictors of Improvement to Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) in Young Children With Autism

    Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a very heterogeneous disorder with limited empirically validated behavioral and biological interventions. The goal of this pilot investigation is to apply a biologically-based approach to identify predictors of treatment response in children with ASD who are receiving Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT), an evidence-based behavioral intervention. Specifically, the investigators propose to identify neuroimaging biomarkers of treatment response to a PRT program (PRT-P) targeting language deficits in young children with ASD who will be randomized to either PRT-P or to a delayed treatment group (DTG).

  • Magnesium for Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy

    Postoperative pain after peroral endoscopic myotomy occurs due to involuntary esophageal smooth muscle spasms. Magnesium has antispasmodic properties as a smooth muscle relaxant. This study hypothesizes that among patients having peroral endoscopic myotomy, magnesium will decrease postoperative esophgeal pain as measured by the esophageal symptoms questionnaire, while decreasing perioperative opioid requirements.

  • Long-term Neurocognitive Sequelae of Subclinical Microembolization During Carotid Interventions

    Microembolization is commonly associated with carotid artery stenting (CAS), but our understanding of subclinical microembolization is superficial. Through collaborative effects of multidisciplinary team-experts, novel approaches, and longitudinal evaluations, we hope to better understand the clinical significance and long-term cognitive effects of microemboli. This proposal may change our current clinical practice by providing a better outcome measure for carotid interventions and improving outcomes of CAS procedures through risk factor stratification. Our central hypothesis is that development of subclinical microemboli is associated with decline in cognitive function following CAS and that the risk of development of microemboli themselves is associated with patient- and procedure-related factors. We hope that this prospective study will help to clarify these important issues in the era of rapidly evolving percutaneous interventions.

  • ITIL-168 in Advanced Melanoma

  • Pilot Biomarker Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy of Itraconazole in Patients w/ Basal Cell Carcinomas

    Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are the most common human cancer in the US and affect over 1 million people. There is no effective drug to prevent basal cell carcinomas of the skin.

    We hope to learn if an oral anti-fungal drug, itraconazole, might inhibit a marker of proliferation and a biomarker (tumor signaling pathway) of BCC development.

    Itraconazole is an FDA-approved drug for the treatment of fungal infections of the skin, and has been used for the past 25 years with relatively few side effects. It has been shown in mice to reduce a BCC biomarker and to reduce growth of BCCs.

    Thus, it may reduce BCC growth in humans.

  • Liquid Biopsy With PET/CT Versus PET/CT Alone in Diagnosis of Small Lung Nodules

    The purpose of this study is to determine if a liquid biopsy, a method of detecting cancer from a blood draw, combined with a PET/CT scan, a type of radiological scan, is better at determining whether a lung nodule is cancerous when compared to a PET/CT scan alone. A PET/CT scan is already used for diagnosis of lung nodules, but its efficacy is uncertain in nodules 6-20 mm in size. Therefore, the PET/CT will be evaluated for its diagnostic ability in lesions this size alone and in combination with a liquid biopsy. Secondarily, a machine learning model will be created to see if the combination of the PET/CT imaging data and the liquid biopsy data can predict the presence of cancer.

  • Long Term Effects On Recipients of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

    This project allows for the systematic collection and analysis of long-term follow-up clinical parameters in children who have received a stem cell transplant. The data collected will assist in determining appropriate intervention and treatment plans for patients enrolled on this study. In addition, future patients may benefit by having the ability to anticipate problems and develop methods of prevention or early intervention.
