  • QOL & Functional Outcomes After Combined Modality Tx for Anal CA: Comparison of Conventional vs IMRT

    The purpose of this study is show that intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), as compared with conventional radiotherapy, improves the precision of tumor targeting and reduces the acute and late effects of radiation toxicity when used to treat anal cancer.   • Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency Natural History Study

    The purpose of this study is to describe the range and incidence of symptoms, treatments, and complications related to pyruvate kinase deficiency (PKD). Eligible patients are those of all ages with known PKD or with a hemolytic anemia and a family member with PKD. The study will collect retrospective medical history, routine clinical care data, and quality of life measures at baseline and annually for patients with PKD.

  • POWER Study (Prospective Transbronchial Microwave + Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy)

    This is a prospective, multicenter, single-arm study on transbronchial microwave ablation using the NEUWAVE FLEX Microwave Ablation System and Accessories on oligometastatic tumors in the peripheral lung, guided by the Auris MONARCH Platform for visualization and access while using cone beam CT (computed tomography) to confirm probe tip placement and final ablation zone.   • Radiation Therapy and Cisplatin With or Without Cetuximab in Treating Patients With Stage III or Stage IV Head and Neck Cancer

    RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Cisplatin may also make tumor cells more sensitive to radiation therapy. Monoclonal antibodies, such as cetuximab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Giving radiation therapy and cisplatin together with cetuximab may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known whether radiation therapy and cisplatin are more effective with or without cetuximab in treating head and neck cancer.

    PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying radiation therapy, cisplatin, and cetuximab to see how well they work compared to radiation therapy and cisplatin in treating patients with stage III or stage IV head and neck cancer.

  • Regional Anesthesia for Cardiothoracic Enhanced Recovery (RACER) Study

    The erector spinae plane block is a novel regional anesthetic technique that allows for analgesia of the thorax and abdomen with a peripheral nerve block. The goals of this study are to determine if bilateral erector spinae plane blocks (ESPB) after sternotomy for congenital heart repair in high risk children and adults can decrease outcomes such as duration of postoperative mechanical ventilation (MV), perioperative opioid consumption, days in the intensive care unit (ICU) and length of stay (LOS).

  • Prevention Trial Assessing Paper-Tape in Endurance Distances II (Pre-TAPED II)

    Friction foot blisters are one of the most common and often debilitating complaints of all athletes, and hikers and runners in particular. Blistering rates in the literature of outdoor hikers range from 7%-54%. This study's aim is to build on Pre-TAPED I, and determine whether applying paper tape to the areas of the foot where blisters historically occur in endurance runners can prevent the incidence of friction blisters.
