  • Efficacy and Safety of Idelalisib (GS-1101) in Combination With Bendamustine and Rituximab for Previously Treated Indolent Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas

    The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the addition of idelalisib to bendamustine/rituximab on progression-free survival (PFS) in adults with previously treated indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma (iNHL).

    An increased rate of deaths and serious adverse events (SAEs) among participants with front-line chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and early-line iNHL treated with idelalisib in combination with standard therapies was observed by the independent data monitoring committee (DMC) during regular review of 3 Gilead Phase 3 studies. Gilead reviewed the unblinded data and terminated this study in agreement with the DMC recommendation and in consultation with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

  • Donor Regulatory T Cells in Treating Patients With Visceral Acute Graft-versus-Host Disease After Stem Cell Transplant

    This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of donor regulatory T cells in treating patients with graft-versus-host disease affecting the liver or gastrointestinal organs (visceral) within 100 days (acute) after undergoing a stem cell transplant. Graft-versus-host disease occurs when donor immune cells infused in a stem cell transplant attack the gut, skin, liver, or other organ systems of the patient. Regulatory T cells are a type of immune cell that may be able to reduce the attack of the donor's immune cells on the patient's normal cells and help treat graft-vs-host disease.

    The purposes of this study is to 1) Provide additional information that the commercially available Abbott Vascular Carotid Stent Systems and Embolic Protection Systems can be used successfully by a wide range of physicians under commercial use conditions. 2) Provide an ongoing post-market surveillance mechanism for documentation of clinical outcomes and for possible extension of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) coverage to a broader group of patients.

  • Effects of Mifepristone on Biomarkers of Metabolic Function and Neuropsychological Performance Among Middle-Aged and Older Individuals

    The purpose of this study is to study the effect of cortisol,a stress hormone in the body, on memory and attention in people with a history of depression, but who are not in the midst of a current depressive episode.

    Cortisol may affect parts of the brain associated with memory and attention directly. It may also indirectly affect the brain by controlling how much insulin the body makes. Insulin is thought to impact cognition by changing the amount of sugar available in certain parts of the brain.

    The investigators are studying this question by giving patients a medication, called Mifepristone, which reduces cortisol's effect on the brain. The investigators will compare results from several groups of people, including differences between men and women, and between those with and without insulin resistance.

  • Feasibility of Home-based Virtual Reality Rehabilitation for the Upper Extremity in Subacute and Chronic Stroke

    Regaining upper extremity function is very important for stroke survivors to increase their independence and ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs). Outpatient stroke rehabilitation currently takes place in a therapy clinic, however access can be limited by financial resources and transportation difficulties.

    The Feasibility of Home-Based Virtual Reality Rehabilitation for the Upper Extremity in Subacute and Chronic Stroke Study seeks to explore the safety, usability, and efficacy of a home based virtual reality biofeedback system to promote distal upper extremity (wrist and hand) recovery after stroke. The purpose of the study is to assess the feasibility of using a home-based virtual reality system to increase the dose of upper extremity rehabilitation in subacute and chronic stroke patients.

  • Carboplatin and Paclitaxel With or Without Bevacizumab in Treating Patients With Stage III or Stage IV Ovarian Epithelial, Primary Peritoneal, or Fallopian Tube Cancer

    This randomized phase III trial studies carboplatin, paclitaxel, and bevacizumab to see how well they work compared to carboplatin, paclitaxel, and placebo in treating patients with stage III or stage IV ovarian epithelial, primary peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. It is not yet known whether carboplatin, paclitaxel, and bevacizumab are more effective than carboplatin, paclitaxel, and placebo in treating ovarian epithelial, primary peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancer.

    This clinical trial studies cancer survivors to identify those who are at increased risk of developing late-occurring complications after undergoing treatment for childhood cancer. A patient's genes may affect the risk of developing complications, such as congestive heart failure, avascular necrosis, stroke, and second cancer, years after undergoing cancer treatment. Genetic studies may help doctors identify survivors of childhood cancer who are more likely to develop late complications.

  • Double-Blind, Multicenter, Sham Surgery Controlled Study of CERE-120 in Subjects With Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease

    The purpose of this double blind study is to determine whether CERE-120 (adeno-associated virus serotype 2 [AAV2]-neurturin [NTN]) is effective and safe in the treatment of patients with idiopathic Parkinson's Disease. CERE-120 is administered via bilateral stereotactic injections targeting the putaminal region of the brain. The design of this study involves approximately 34 patients receiving CERE-120 treatment via stereotactic surgery and approximately 17 patients receiving sham stereotactic surgery (no CERE-120 administered).

  • Effect of Proton Pump Inhibitors on Endothelial Function

    In this randomized controlled crossover study, the investigators propose to test the hypothesis that proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) increase plasma levels of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), which is a marker of endothelial dysfunction. The authors propose to evaluate ADMA concentrations and vascular function analysis in healthy volunteers and adults with a history of cardiovascular disease given PPI vs placebo for four weeks each.

  • Comparison of Virtual Training to In-Person Training of Helping Babies Breathe in Ethiopia

    Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) is a program that teaches providers in low- and middle-income countries about neonatal resuscitation. Historically, HBB training was delivered in person. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many subject matter experts were unable to travel to conduct HBB courses. Innovative methods for teaching HBB are needed to promote the acquisition and retention of resuscitation skills and knowledge.
